Business students finish second in international competition

A University of Calgary team of students from the Haskayne school of business finished second in an international competition to develop solutions to growing water shortages around the world.

The team was one of only six undergraduate teams in the San Francisco regionals-the majority were MBA or PhD students. They eventually took the runner up position behind Stanford.

“It was absolutely amazing to be representing Haskayne at the competition, not to mention finishing number two out of 31 North American MBA schools,” said team captain Mark Blackwell in a press release.

The team, which consisted of Blackwell, Samanta Jovanovic, Lauren Rooney, Yisha Pang and Kali Taylor, all have experience in engineering and business or have worked in the tar sands on water-related issues.

Winning teams from each of the five regionals will now move on to the global final competition in New York City on April 28, where a $1 million prize will be awarded.
